“I tried on the sexy ones.”

Dear You,

I tried on at least 30 different wedding dresses for my big day. I tried on the expensive ones. I tried on the sexy ones. I tried on the “artsy” ones and looked like a torn lace statue. I did try on this one gown, however, that I never thought I would like. It was as if it was made just for me. I stood in front of the mirror and began to giggle. Hysterically. I didn’t know what to say. I was just gawking at that beautiful bride-to-be in the mirror and wondered where that snow beast went that was standing right there five minutes ago. The girl helping me get into the gowns teared up. My mom started to cry. I found the perfect gown.

Sincerely,

K

“I am going to miss him.”

Dear You,

A few minutes ago I found out that my godfather passed away last night. This blog is in memory of him because memory is the one thing he started losing two years ago, until it destroyed him. Assadour Doniguian was a kind man, loved and cherished by many. I am going to miss him. As difficult as it is to deal with the loss, I understand that he’s in a better place and that’s good. His suffering is over and over time, we will move on. I feel numb and confused, like it happened so fast. May he rest in peace and watch over us as we grow and grow.

Sincerely,

KK

“I lost a lot of respect for her.”

Dear You,

Yesterday I watched a video on wife beatings in a certain religion. I don’t think there’s a need to reveal that religion. The video content was disgustingly pragmatic and against everything I believe in. I talked to, what was before I saw that video, a close friend of mine about it. She’s in that department and told me I shouldn’t spread news about it and was told that, basically, I know nothing about that religion [BUZZER: false]. Politics entered the heated argument and I let her have the last word. I have adjusted my political standings for the sake of friendships. I have kept my mouth shut in order to survive the day. I have had it. I wouldn’t be surprised if our friendship ended. I lost a lot of respect for her. Oh I’m a victim, feel sorry for me. Watch the news. Hate the enemy. I don’t know world, I don’t know.

Sincerely,

KK

“I live here at the moment.”

Dear You,

Today I heard about a young woman who converted to a different religion in order to keep her job. In return, she learned that the new religion is beautiful, got a slight wardrobe makeover and misunderstood what worshipping is all about. And not just that, she got a 50% raise. I live here at the moment. Supposedly I should feel extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such gold and glamour but the truth is, it’s nothing like what Google shows you. I have mixed feelings about this place. Things need to calm down.

Sincerely,

KK

“I miss her.”

Dear You,

I miss her. I really do. We were so close and I don’t know why we drifted apart. It’s not hatred, it’s not love — it’s worse. It’s indifference, I think. The awkward smile, the awkward “Hey… what’s up?”. I haven’t seen her in a year yet I seek her news just about daily. Does she miss me too? She was the greatest friend. I take it back, I know why we drifted apart. It’s because I pushed her away and didn’t let her stay. We were supposed to go to film school together. I am so far away now yet she’s in my thoughts. If you get to talk to her, tell her she’s on my mind and that I want our friendship back.

Sincerely,

KK

“He even called me, “a rare angel”.”

Dear You,

I was in Dubai, at the Virgin Megastore one December, doing some Christmas shopping for my family back home. When I was done, I went back to my hotel room and noticed that the Spongebob t-shirt that I had bought for my baby cousin wasn’t listed on the receipt, and everything else was. It didn’t really cost much anyway, so I went to sleep. Next day, the morning of my flight, I woke up, drowned in guilt. Even though many would consider it luck, I decided to go back to the store and pay for that item. The manager could not believe that I wanted to return to the store to pay for the t-shirt. He even called me, “a rare angel”. I ended up paying $14 for it and walked out of the store with lots of Santa chocolate in my shopping bag.

Sincerely,

KK

“I’d like to take the time to talk to you about love.”

Dear You,

I’d like to take the time to talk to you about love. When he shows up with french fries just for you, when he waltzes with you while you’re shopping at Walmart, when he’s a kid with you whenever and wherever, when he can make you smile when nothing else can, when he makes every kiss seem fresher, when he tells you he loves every inch of you, when he goes shopping with you and gives his input regarding fragrances and purses, when he looks at you and sees you - some things which define what love is.

Sincerely,

KK

“I’m going home for the Holidays.”

Dear You,

I’m going home for the Holidays. And I have to say, I will miss the U.S. a lot. A part of me, no idea what size, is happy to be going back home to see my family. A part of me, size unknown, is very sad to be leaving. By going home for the Holidays, I will not be spending Christmas, New Year’s, my love’s birthday and our one-year anniversary with my one and only. One thing you should know - it was my love who pushed me to be with my family next month.

Sincerely,

KK

“On this ship were brave sailors.”

Dear You,

One time my dad was driving my sisters and me to school. He told us that once upon a time, there was this huge ship. On this ship were brave sailors. One stormy night, they got lost because of heavy winds and whatnot. When the storm ended, they were chilling on the deck and a dolphin surfaced and started “communicating” with them. The sounds the dolphin was making were recorded by the soldiers, and eventually they realized that the dolphin was trying to tell them how to reach the nearest shore. And that is how the Morse code was invented. Right before we got out of the car, my dad said, “I made that up, by the way.”

Sincerely,

KK

“Oh, and of course, I was forgotten.”

Dear You,

A few months ago I traveled to Syria to visit my mom’s side of the family. I had a great time with my mom and sisters and everyone else, but one thing kept me up every other night. My godfather, who also happens to be my mom’s aunt’s husband, has Alzheimer’s. We discovered he had it over a year ago. So, when I visited him, he looked so old yet so childlike. He asked me to help him wrap a deck of cards with his belt. Whenever I visited him that summer, I would be prepared for a sleepless night ahead. Oh, and of course, I was forgotten.

Sincerely,

KK

“A month later, I quit my job.”

Dear You,

One time I was having a very bad day at work. On my way back to work (dad was dropping me off), we passed by a pet store. I saw a white kitten through the window, that was playing and very hyper. I immediately fell in love with it, and my dad, seeing my eyes go big and “ooh!”, turned the car around and together we got that cat. His name’s Pissot now, and he’s over a year old. Dad made my day, and it really made me feel much better. A month later, I quit my job.

Sincerely,

KK

“One night, we arrived at his place.”

Dear You,

One night, we arrived at his place. He turned on the stereo and tuned in to WNCI. I was drinking water, when he pulled me gently by my arm, took me to the living room, and started dancing to Flo Rida’s Club Can’t Handle Me with me. And let me tell you - it was the sexiest thing ever.

Sincerely,

KK

“I’d always listen, then repeat the song until we reached Walmart.”

Dear You,

Sometimes I’d be sitting next to Kyle in his truck and we’d be driving to someplace, usually Walmart. The radio would be on, and whatever song start playing there, both of us would always manage to do a dance: the Steering Wheel, the Marshmallow, the Robot. Other times, we’d have an iPod connected and Kyle would sing along to Johnny Cash’s Hurt amazingly. I’d always listen, then repeat the song until we reached Walmart.

Sincerely,

KK
